A belated happy new year to you all. For those who've already broken their new year's resolutions... what took you so long? To those who're desperately clinging to their list made 5 minutes before the end of 2008, give it up. After all, 2009 got off to a bit of a wrong foot because 2008 was given one extra second on December 31. As if the world had to endure one more second of agony before looking forward to this year.
Obviously I'm not a big fan of resolutions. Never tried it, never will. It's tough to follow through unless you're totally disciplined to it and will really fight to the end. I liken it to setting goals in PACES as "1-PT." Workable on paper, but absolutely tough to do unless focused. I guess you'd need to be a like a horse at Sta. Ana with the bits on the eyes and not have the attention span of a 5 year old kid at the playground of McDo.
But as long as we're still at the early stages of 2009, here are some things I'd like to see:
.) That people will realize that Barack Obama is only human, and that he has to manage everybody's expectations, first of all his country.
.) That Oprah lose weight if she's to become Obama's VP by 2012.
.) That Sarah Palin should start not looking like Tina Fey. Hard to watch 30 Rock with that kind of comparison.
.) That Cory apologize to Marcos as well for EDSA 1, along the lines of what she said to Erap.
.) That Binay recognize he's no Obama; well, maybe in one thing alone.
.) That the rest of our politicians stop campaigning this early by appearing in TV ads and whatnot. Oh wait, it does happen. Crap.
.) That people stop making fun of the dialects of this country. We're a cornucopia of dialects and accents, and that should be enough. No need to poke fun of their accents or their standings in life.
.) That Pinoys abroad start acting there the same way they do here. It's hypocritical that they obey traffic lights in New York and beat the red lights in Cebu as if their pants are on fire.
.) That Pacquiao will beat the crap out of Hatton, Mayweather, Klitschko, Ali, Holmes, Foreman and Tyson and stay a boxer. Please.
.) That we don't have to live and die with every punch of Pacquiao.
.) That we can be good in other sports other than the 3B's (basketball, billiards and boxing). Also, that the rest of the nation would actually watch other sports than these.
.) That the Lakers beat the Celtics good, to the point that Garnett would be in tears.
.) That La Salle would beat Ateneo, to the point that the Ateneans I know would be in tears.
.) That other UAAP sports be shown in TV.
.) That Man United win the Treble again before Sir Alex Ferguson, Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes ride off into the sunset.
.) That Tiger Woods would come back and teach Obama to fix his swing.
.) That Roger Federer would beat the crap out of Nadal.
.) That Lance Armstrong would win the Tour de France with one hand tied behind his back and on a unicycle.
.) That Lewis Hamilton would win F1 using a Sarao Jeepney engine. Hey, times are hard.
.) That traffic in Cebu will still be not as bad as Manila.
.) That our sales team would hit our targets just like this year.
.) That our next sales con/teambuilding be in Coron again. Good times!
.) That my Cebuano improves and I begin learning Ilocano.
.) That I actually break 100 this year on the fairway, without spending a lot on equipment, and lose more weight than this year.
.) That I save up more and be more disciplined in my spending.
.) That I spend more time with God for guidance and direction.
.) That our family's plans and dreams will be brought to fruition for this year.
.) That Nips will be blessed and be a blessing in Singapore.
.) That all my single friends (you know who you are, hands in the air!) finally find their GB (?!) this year. Not necessarily get married, but approach that stage.
.) That at least two-thirds of what I've written down be accomplished. But that's for the Lord to do, all in His time after all.
